The Heck

Biography

The Heck

The Heck makes Classic Rock current by taking the best from the masters, fine tuning it and creating a unique brand of hook driven, post punk with a retro rock edge. The Heck bring a new fury to the staleness of the current scene. With youth on their side, these three players have been innately living with their instruments for over half their natural born lives. The three-piece rock powerhouse Bryan Steeksma (Lead Vocals and Guitar), Trevor Watson (Bass and Back Up Vocal), and Malcolm Holt, (Drums) hail from the Pacific North West. Their location would imply crunchy guitars and full force grunge, but it is their bright, clean harmonies, raging guitar solos and poppy drum sound that set them a world apart from the area scene.

Ax wielding front man Bryan Steeksma has had a long-lived love affair with the guitar. At five, Bryan had to sit to play because he could not hold his instrument up, and by 15 was busy jamming with legendary blues cats at the renowned Yale Hotel in Vancouver. Inspired by guitar greats Jimi Hendrix and Joe Satriani, Bryan burns the fret board with a caliber of guitar work unheard since Eddie Van Halen's glory days; writing songs with maturity far beyond his years while delivering a prolific stage show with the rare combination of raw force and musical precision. Disheartened by today's modern music trends, Bryan knew that he had to be a part of something more then just jam sessions and self-propelled practices. He longed to be a part of a band The Heck.

In the summer of 2005, Bryan Steeksma joined forces with Malcolm Holt, whose tempered blend of jazz, ska, punk, reggae, and rock set The Heck's evolution of music into motion. Malcolm Holt, at twenty, brings an extensive musical past, beating skins for almost a decade. Malcolm's extensive touring history and studio performance is a force to be reckoned with, playing formerly in several projects and recording four studio albums by the age of eighteen. Malcolm won the world's fastest drummer award at Warped Tour clocking in at 892 single stroke beats in 1 minute. That's approximately 15 strokes per second. His tenacious approach to the drums and eccentric live show is reminiscent of Keith Moon and Jon Bonham. Holt dances behind the drums setting the up-tempo frenzy.

When searching for a bass player Malcolm called upon his former band mate Trevor Watson. The Ashland, Oregon natives met during their sophomore year of high school and 10th grade year and immediately began a band together, The Better Half. After a short stint in L.A., Trevor longed for his Oregon roots and moved to Portland where he was in several projects as the lead guitarist and singer. Although playing the bass in The Heck is new for him, it was a natural progression, his keen vocals blend with Bryan's to create a killer dynamic. Rich with the decade spanning musical influences of The Beatles, The Who, Bowie, Minus the Bear, At the Drive-in, and Pinback, Trevor's talents are greatly diverse.

With an ever growing song base, the three have been fervently touring the USA and writing for their upcoming album. Watch out for The Heck, on tour, on shelves and dominating your radios and TV's in 2007.
